- ⅓ cup boiled apple cider
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup sanding sugar
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large bowl, beat together shortening and sugar until creamy. Add the egg and boiled apple cider; mix well. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, salt, and spices together. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet mixture on low speed until just blended.
- Chill Dough: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Shape Cookies: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll chilled dough into tablespoon-sized balls and coat in sanding sugar. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet spaced 2 inches apart.
- Bake: Bake for 9–11 minutes until lightly golden at edges. Cool on wire rack before serving.
