- 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
- Mix eggs, ice water, and lemon juice in another bowl. Combine with flour mixture until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking pan.
- Roll out the larger piece of dough and press into the pan. Fill with spiced apple mixture made from apples tossed with sugars, cornstarch, spices, lemon juice, and vanilla.
- Roll out the remaining dough for the top crust; cut vents to allow steam escape.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely before glazing.
