  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and prepare a baking sheet with cubed brioche.
  2. Toast the bread cubes in the oven until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the toasted bread with melted butter.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
  5. Lightly coat an 8×8 inch baking dish with butter.
  6. Layer half of the brioche in the dish followed by half of the berries; repeat with remaining bread and berries.
  7. Pour the custard mixture over the layers, pressing down gently to ensure everything is submerged.
  8. Bake uncovered for about 45-50 minutes until golden brown; allow to cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
