- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (preferably Grade A Dark)
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup (for icing)
- Milk or cream (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon; set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add maple syrup and mix well.
- Incorporate the egg and vanilla; then gradually add dry ingredients until just combined.
- Cover dough tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough onto prepared sheets, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden; cool on racks.
- For icing, brown butter in a saucepan until nutty; mix in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
- Once cookies are cooled, dip or drizzle icing over them.
