Ingredients

Scale

For the Base

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups sliced carrots (about 2 large carrots)
2 cups sliced sweet potatoes (about 2 small sweet potatoes, halved and quartered)
2 cups diced apple (about 2 apples)

Seasonings

1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt (divided)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons rubbed sage (divided)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
A small sprinkle of nutmeg

Main Ingredients

2 pounds ground lean turkey
3 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons chili powder
3 cups crushed tomatoes
2 cups strained tomatoes (or marinara sauce)
1–2 cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Instructions

Cook the Base

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add carrots and sweet potatoes and cook for 5–7 minutes until slightly softened.
Stir in diced apples and cook another 2–3 minutes.

2. Add Seasonings

Sprinkle in onion powder, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir to coat the vegetables evenly.

3. Brown the Turkey

Push vegetables to the side of the pot and add ground turkey.
Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
Stir everything together once fully cooked.

4. Build the Chili

Add tomato paste and chili powder, stirring for 1–2 minutes to deepen flavor.
Pour in crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes.
Add kidney beans, remaining salt, and remaining sage.

5. Simmer

Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until sweet potatoes are tender and flavors are well combined.

6. Serve

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm and enjoy!
