  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: Makes about 16 bars 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, melted or room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt until fluffy. Gradually add flour until dough forms.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. Combine sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  5. For the crumble topping, mix remaining flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until crumbly.
  6. Remove crust from oven; increase temperature to 350°F (175°C). Layer half of the crumble on the baked crust, add apple filling, then top with remaining crumble.
  7. Bake for an additional 30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing into bars.
