  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted or softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp of salt until smooth. Gradually mix in 1 cup of all-purpose flour.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, toss together 3 sliced apples with 2 tbsp of flour, 2 tbsp of granulated sugar, 1 tsp of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg. Spread this over the crust.
  5. For the topping, mix together 1/2 cup of flour, 3/4 cup of brown sugar, and 1/4 cup of melted butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apple layer.
  6. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown on top. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
