Ingredients
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, soak the panko bread crumbs in milk until fully absorbed.
- Sauté diced onions in butter over medium heat until fragrant, then add minced garlic and cook for another few minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, sautéed onions and garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and salt. Mix gently without overworking the meat.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet and score the top with a knife.
- Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard for the topping sauce.
- After 40 minutes of baking, spread the sauce over the meatloaf and continue baking until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (approximately another 30-35 minutes).
