  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, soak the panko bread crumbs in milk until fully absorbed.
  3. Sauté diced onions in butter over medium heat until fragrant, then add minced garlic and cook for another few minutes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, sautéed onions and garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and salt. Mix gently without overworking the meat.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet and score the top with a knife.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard for the topping sauce.
  8. After 40 minutes of baking, spread the sauce over the meatloaf and continue baking until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (approximately another 30-35 minutes).
